At Birkdale Park, we’re always looking for new ways to bring joy, purpose, and a sense of togetherness to daily life—and this spring, we’re excited to have entered a sunflower growing competition!

Residents have been getting their hands delightfully messy, enjoying the simple pleasure of sowing sunflower seeds and nurturing them as they begin to grow. From carefully planting each seed to watering and checking on their progress each day, it’s been a lovely shared activity that brings both calm and excitement.

Gardening offers so many benefits, especially for our residents. It encourages gentle movement, stimulates the senses, and provides a wonderful opportunity to reminisce and chat about gardens from years gone by. Watching something grow from a tiny seed into a bright, towering sunflower is incredibly rewarding—and we’re all looking forward to seeing just how tall ours will reach!

There’s already a sense of friendly competition in the air, with residents comparing whose sunflower might grow the tallest or bloom the brightest. Most importantly, it’s been a fantastic way to spend time together, enjoy the fresh air, and celebrate the season.

We can’t wait to share updates as our sunflowers grow—wish us luck! 🌻
